Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical substances (REACH) is a new European Community regulation that requires the registration and safe use of chemicals. REACH compliance is instrumental in remaining present and competitive in the EU market.

REACH seeks to formally account for every use of a given chemical sold or distributed in the EU, either in pure form or as part of a formulated product.

If you produce substances within the EU or are part of a supply chain that introduces substances into the EU, you need to pre-register the substances between June 1 and November 30, 2008. In addition, REACH requires that notifications or communications be completed for Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC). If you produce articles, products where the shape dictates its use such as furniture, toys or electronics, you need to determine the SVHC composition of the article and the total amount of SVHC introduced to the EU.

It is imperative for companies to determine their obligations now in order to properly prepare for REACH and not have the operations adversely impacted.
