Geotechnical Engineering
HRP provides a wide array of geotechnical services including Pre-Construction Investigations and Foundation Design Recommendations, Slope Stability Analysis, and Forensic Evaluations. Our geotechnical engineering services are designed to help you evaluate a site before finalizing development plans, to reduce liability related to unsuitable site conditions and, when necessary, recoup funds after an engineering failure.
Pre-Construction Investigations and Foundation Design Recommendations
HRP’s engineering geologists and geological engineers conduct Pre-Construction Field Investigations including:
- Installation of soil and rock borings
- Collection of soil and rock samples for materials testing
- Determination of groundwater evaluation
We then evaluate this data to provide you with Foundation Design recommendations that can be used by the team's architects and structural engineers. Our recommendations typically address:
- Soil bearing capacity
- Footing size and depth
- Settlement concerns due to proposed loads
- Sub-slab and sub-footing drainage considerations
Slope Stability Analysis
Our geologists and engineers can also help you address slope stability concerns. Our team will:
- Collect slope measurements
- Evaluate failure envelopes and day lighting
- Calculate factors of safety for slope cuts (soil and rock)
- Design mitigation plans to increase safety and reduce owner liability
Forensic Evaluation
In cases where engineering failure has occurred at a site, HRP can perform forensic evaluations of the damage to support your cost recovery efforts. Our evaluations can include:
- Collection of pertinent site measurements and review of as-built conditions
- Comparison of recommended building specifications to actual construction details
- Recommendations for mitigation of damage
