DOT Hazardous Materials Transportation Refresher Training

DOT regulations 49 CFR 172.700 require all "hazmat" employees to be trained or re-trained at least every three years. Hazmat employees include anyone who performs at least one or more of the following hazardous material activities:

  • Properly classifies the hazardous material for shipment, which includes selecting the proper shipping name, the hazard class, and the packing group;
  • Selects the proper packaging for the hazardous material shipment;
  • Labels and marks the packaging used for hazardous material shipment;
  • Prepares the hazardous material shipping papers, which includes signing or reviewing paperwork;
  • Determines the proper placards for the hazardous material shipment;
  • Loads or unloads the hazardous material from the transport vehicle; or
  • Operates a vehicle used to transport hazardous materials.

This comprehensive half-day training seminar is designed to meet the DOT mandatory refresher training requirements listed under 49 CFR 172.704(c)(2). You will hear how to classify hazardous materials, select the proper package, label and mark packages, complete shipping papers, and determine the appropriate placards.

Our experienced instructors will also review new or pending changes to the Hazardous Material Regulations, including:

  • HM-215E – Amendments to hazardous material table and marine pollutant list, additions to shipping papers and revisions to marking requirements
  • HM-223 – Clarification of hazardous material loading, unloading and storage operations
  • HM-229 – Revisions to incident reporting requirements
